Housing Choice

Who is eligible for Housing Choice Assistance?

As of November 1, 2002, we are no longer accepting applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting list (formerly Sec 8). We will accept applications for the Project Based waiting list from elderly persons (62 years and older) only.

Where do I apply for Housing Choice Assistance?

The elderly can complete their pre-application during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, at the Housing Authority of DeKalb's Central Office located at 750 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA. 30030.

How do I check my status on the Housing Choice Waiting List?

Each pre-application that is determined to be eligible is placed on HADC's waiting list in accordance with its local approved preference. The computerized waiting list places the pre-application in the appropriate order on the waiting list. An applicant may call 404-270-2600 and, by entering their social security number, may determine where they are on the waiting list. An applicant's position on the waiting list will change from week to week due to applicants being selected from the waiting list, changes in preference status, and new pre-applications accepted.

It is each applicant's responsibility to keep their application updated with their current address, family size, etc. When an applicant reaches the top of the waiting list the information provided by the applicant at pre-application will be verified and if they no longer qualify for the preference then the pre-application will be put back on the waiting list in the appropriate place. If your address is no longer correct and the Authorities can't contact you, your pre-application will be withdrawn from the waiting list and you will have to re-apply when the waiting list is re-opened.
