Annual Recertification

The Housing Authority is required to recertify each family for continued assistance at least once each year.

An appointment letter is mailed to the head of household at least thirty to ninety days before the contract expiration date. This appointment is mandatory and each adult household member 18 years of age or older must be present at the annual recertification interview. Missed appointments may result in termination of housing assistance.

All forms contained in the recertification packet must be completed, signed and dated.

A criminal background check is conducted on all household members 15 years of age or older.

Proof of citizenship, birth certificates, and social security cards must be provided for each household member (if not previously submitted). All adult members must provide current valid photo ID.

All family circumstances must be verified through third party verification. Such circumstance include but are to limited to all forms of income, full time student status for students 18 years or older, child care, need for a live-in aide, and assets. The Housing Counselor may require additional information to complete the verification process.

Based upon the information provided, the family's rent is calculated. The family receives a copy of the rent change notification letter at the re-exam appointment. A copy is mailed to the owner.

Families should reschedule their appointment if they are unable to attend. Tardiness will require the appointment to be rescheduled. Recertification appointments will only be rescheduled once.

Missed appointments and failure to provide required information may result in termination of assistance.
